Lane County, OR - Agriculture/Irrigation Project
Project Background
Description of the Community
The communities mission is to foster traditional education, to care for the water and land and teach environmental stewardship and to preserve traditional ceremonies that affirm and celebrate cultural identities and ancestral knowledge. They provide a refuge for Afro-Indigenous and LGBTQ2S peoples.
Project Scope of Work
At this time a major priority are the organization's efforts towards promoting food sovereignty by installing a greenhouse. Located on the property they have a rainwater catchment system that while originally intended for fire mitigation, is no longer functioning, they hope to rehabilitate it and to be able to utilize it for both fire mitigation and the garden. Green house work could include small-scale solar pumping for irrigation. Community would also like to explore the restoration of several spaces on the property into shared gathering spaces. This could require solar and structural expertise. The final scope will be determined based on the expertise and availability of the team, along with a prioritization of needs from the community partner.
