Camp Verde, AZ - Transportation
Project Background
Description of the Community:
Camp Verde, Arizona, is a historic town in central Arizona’s Verde Valley, known for its rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes. Situated along the Verde River, it offers a mix of small-town charm and outdoor adventure, with attractions like Montezuma Castle National Monument, Fort Verde State Historic Park, and access to nearby hiking, fishing, and camping. Originally a military outpost in the 19th century, the town has deep ties to its frontier history. Today, Camp Verde is a growing community with a focus on agriculture, tourism, and economic development, while maintaining its historic roots and natural beauty.
The Camp Verde area is also home to the Yavapai-Apache Nation. The Nation consists of approximately 2,440 acres of land spread across multiple communities, including areas in and around the Town of Camp Verde. The Town and the Nation have been collaborating on local issues since the town’s inception in 1986. Throughout their partnership, the two communities have sought to address key community issues concerning sustainability, transportation, road infrastructure, land development, water management, and water/wastewater infrastructure. The community is considered underserved, facing disproportionate barriers to transportation accessibility along with many low-income residents. To aid with these transportation issues the Nation operates a network of bus routes in and around the town.
Scope of Work:
CECorps’ scope includes taking inventory of various types of roadways in the town. This inventory will include the type of roads (arterial, collectors, local) and the length of the various segments of these roads, The length and width of the bridges owned by the town will also be part of the inventory. The town has various records concerning its roadway network and these will be researched in the initial stages of the project. The final deliverable from the work will be a report summarizing the current roadway system and a table with types and length of road miles. Existing pavement and bridge conditions and a capacity analysis of the roadway system are not a part of this project. This inventory does not include either US Highway 17 or State Route 260.
